SANFORD — Police here are investigating a crash between a pedestrian and a motorcycle at mid-afternoon Thursday that sent both the pedestrian and the motorcycle operator to the hospital.

Sanford Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout said the crash was reported  at 2:07 p.m. on Main Street near the Shapleigh town line.

The motorcycle was traveling north on Main Street. Strout said the pedestrian was walking in the travel lane of the northbound lane and the motorcycle and the pedestrian collided.

The pedestrian, Christopher Hodgkins, 29, a transient, sustained possible internal injuries and was taken by Sanford rescue personnel to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Strout said the operator of the motorcycle, James Little, 59, of West Newfield, sustained possible broken bones, and was also  taken to Maine Medical Center.

 The investigation is continuing.
