BIDDEFORD — Michael S. Irving, the 49-year-old transient wanted for reportedly ramming a State Police cruiser in Lyman in April, was arrested by the Saco and Biddeford Police Departments on Wednesday.

Irving, a transient who frequents Old Orchard Beach, Portland and Biddeford is being held on $5,000 bail at the York County Jail in Alfred after being arrested, naked, on a small island off the coast Wednesday.

He had been wanted by troopers since April 23 for allegedly striking a Maine State Police cruiser after being stopped for an inspection sticker violation along Day Road.

State Police posted on their social media accounts Tuesday that Irving was still at large and were seeking the public’s help in finding him. They updated their posts Wednesday with news of his arrest.

During the April 23 traffic stop, police said, the trooper was sitting in his cruiser to check on Irving’s identification when Irving put his vehicle in reverse, rammed the cruiser and then drove away. The vehicle was later found abandoned about a half mile away, along an ATV trail near Lyman Elementary School.

Police say Irving ran into woods. A search with tracking dogs was conducted, but he was not found.

The officer, Trooper David Coflesky, was not injured in the incident. The cruiser, however, sustained over $1,000 dollars in damage to the front end.

Troopers planned to charge Irving with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated criminal mischief and eluding a police officer. He’s now facing new charges from Biddeford Police.

Biddeford Dep. Police Chief JoAnne Fisk could not speak to those new charges Wednesday afternoon.
