DAMARISCOTTA (AP) — Police have charged an off-duty Maine Marine Patrol officer with drunken driving following a head-on collision over the weekend in Damariscotta.
The Lincoln County sheriff’s Department arrested 26-year-old Brandon Bezio of Tenants Harbor after the collision early Saturday.
Bezio reportedly drove into the path of a tractor-trailer, whose driver was unable to avoid the crash.
Neither driver was seriously hurt, but a passenger in the tractor-trailer complained of back pain.
Bezio, who works out of the Rockland office, didn’t immediately return a phone message.
In March, he was named Marine Patrol Officer of the Year by the Maine Lobstermen’s Association.
The Maine Marine Patrol is conducting an internal investigation.
