For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13

Overcoming Self-defeat

Why do some of us give up on our dreams, while others simply see defeat as an opportunity for growth? We throw in the towel, assuming the situation is hopeless when it actually is not. Painful as it may be, failure is not the end. It is a necessary part of our life journey, and we would be wise to allow it to change us and shape us. The world’s greatest heroes are the ones who experienced tragedy, pain and setbacks, but moved beyond it all to reach their goal. We would do well to seek out strong role models. Good people help others to succeed, and there is much to be learned from them. Abraham Lincoln was defeated several times in running for certain offices, and he was ready to give up. But he fought his way through bouts of deep depression, and went on to become one of our most beloved presidents. God does not want us to succumb to feelings of defeat and despair. He wants us to make a leap of faith, take that first step, and don’t look back. God will be with us, and we must never forget that.
