The Old Orchard Beach Police Department has been awarded a grant for the “Click it Or Ticket” high visibility seat belt enforcement campaign.
The goal of the seatbelt initiative is to influence people to buckle up and prevent injuries and fatalities.
The program will run from May 22 through June 4. During this time various seat belt enforcement details will be conducted by members of the Old Orchard Beach Police Department. The details will be at varying times of day and locations through the town.
Police officers are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing their seat belt, including passengers and drivers that have neglected to properly buckle their children.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
