Food train ready to roll
Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook is concluding its sixth annual “Climb Aboard the Food Train,” a city-wide food drive to benefit the Westbrook Food Pantry.
“Many of our elderly, children, disabled, unemployed and underemployed people in the community come to the pantry on a regular basis in order to have enough to eat,” the church said in a statement. “The pantry does a wonderful job, but their resources are limited and their shelves are often sparse. For those of us who are blessed with abundance, giving to those in need can make a huge difference in the lives of the poor.”
Church members have placed money jars and food boxes in business establishments and churches throughout Westbrook. Special collection sites for food have been designated at Mr. Bagel, Walker Memorial Library and the office at the Westbrook Community Center.
Money and food will be collected until the first weekend of May when a “food train” will pick up all the donations, which will be delivered to the food pantry in the Westbrook Community Center. On Saturday, May 6, the train will also be parked at the skateboard park by Hannaford and in the parking lot at Shaw’s.
“Last year, we had a very successful food drive and we anticipate another great outpouring of generosity in our community,” the church said. “We appreciate the many local businesses and churches who are helping with this drive.”

Grief support group
Healing from the loss of a loved one is never easy and additional support may be needed to assist in the grieving process. VNA Home Health Hospice and Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church are co-sponsoring a six-week grief support group in Westbrook, from May 10 to June 14.
This support group offers adults the opportunity to learn about grief, share their experiences and practice healthy coping techniques. The group will meet every Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The support group is free of charge, but space is limited.
Those interested in attending the group should contact Linda Hopkins at 400-8714 to reserve their spot.
Reminder: Photographer to speak
