SACO — Tom Partridge has been hired as the assistant principal for Saco Middle School.

The Saco School Board unanimously appointed Partridge for the position at Wednesday night’s School Board meeting.

Partridge received a hearty round of applause at the board’s decision.

He is a familiar face at Saco Middle School, as he taught sixth grade social studies for four years before stepping in as the interim assistant principal this school year.

Partridge has been an educator for about 10 years. He taught in Arizona for five years, and after moving to Maine began his career in education in the state in Old Orchard Beach, first as a substitute teacher than as an educational technician.

In a brief interview after the meeting, Partridge said that he enjoys working in the Saco school system because of the high  amount of parent involvement and the high level of respect the community has for education.

He said the students at Saco Middle School are very kind, the type of students who will hold the door open, pick up a book someone has dropped, or help someone with crutches carry items.

“They’re a good group of kids,” he said.
