Anthony Soto, 31, of Rochester, New Hampshire, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Route 109 in Wells on Tuesday, during what police are calling a proactive criminal enforcement detail along Interstate 95 in the Cumberland and York County areas.
According to the agency’s social media pages, Trooper Jesse Duda stopped Soto’s vehicle for a traffic violation, but discovered he was wanted in Strafford County, New Hampshire, for a probation violation pertaining to drug trafficking charges.
Soto was transported to the York County Jail in Alfred where he was found to be in possession of scheduled drugs. Police found in his possession 19 grams of cocaine, 61 tablets of oxycodone and 19 strips of Suboxone. He was charged with unlawful trafficking of each scheduled drug.
He was also charged with illegal trafficking of prison contraband and as a fugitive from justice.
Bail was set at $15,000 cash for the drug charges, police said, although no bail was allowed for the fugitive from justice charge.
Soto will make his first appearance today in Springvale District Court. He will be extradited back to New Hampshire.
