The Bowdoin College women’s basketball team hit a school- record 15 3- pointers in a 96-65 blowout of Husson on Tuesday evening.

The 20th-ranked Polar Bears, who never trailed in the game, improved to 18-3 this season. Bowdoin is averaging a 30.5-point margin of victory on its current six- game winning streak. Husson dropped to 17-3 with its largest margin of defeat this season.

Bowdoin was not challenged from the outset, jumping to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes and connecting on eight treys in the first quarter. Kate Kerrigan and Hannah Graham hit two apiece as the Polar Bears held a commanding 33-12 lead after just 10 minutes.

Bowdoin set a school record for 3-pointers in a half, going to the intermission with a big lead after draining 11 treys. The previous mark in a half was eight.

The Polar Bears led 51-29 at halftime and continued to roll in the third period. When Abby Kelly hit a 3- pointer with four minutes left in the third quarter, Bowdoin broke the school mark in a game (12), also set against Husson in 2005.

The Polar Bears led by as many as 40 points in the second half en route to the win.

Thirteen different Polar Bears scored in the win, including five players in double figures. Taylor Choate had a team-best 12 points, while Kerrigan added 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals. Marle Curle, Lydia Caputi and Lauren Petit had 10 points each, while Graham scored nine.

Bowdoin will return home for Senior Weekend in Morrell Gymnasium on Friday against Wesleyan (7 p.m.) and Connecticut College on Saturday (3 p.m.).

The Maine State Championships were held this past weekend.

The Bowdoin women placed third at the Maine State Championship meet hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Friday evening.

The Polar Bears totaled 147.50 points to trail Bates ( 215.50) and Southern Maine ( 155.50). Bowdoin edged Colby ( 139) and outscored Husson (47.50) and St. Joseph’s (9).

Bowdoin earned a pair of victories in the meet. The Polar Bears went 1-2 in the 5,000-meter race as Anne McKee (18:23.89) took the win over teammate Julia O’Rourke ( 18: 39). Demi Feder won the 1,000 in a time of 3:03.62, edging out the win at the line by .11 seconds.

The women will be back in action at the Dave Hemery Invitational at Boston University on Friday.

Men

Bates won the 2017 title

on Saturday evening at Farley Field House.

The Bobcats reclaimed the crown for the first time since 2015. Bowdoin won the state title last winter. Bates had 185 points, with the Polar Bears close behind with 176. Colby ( 105), USM ( 82) and St. Joseph’s ( 6) rounded out the field.

Brian Greenberg of Bowdoin won the Peter Goodrich Award for the Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet. Greenberg earned a personal-best in winning the triple jump (47-10) and second in the long jump (22-01.50).

Joseph Staudt won the 60 hurdles in a meet-record time of 8.38 seconds for the Polar Bears. John Pietro won the shot put competition (47-05.25) and took second overall in the weight throw (51-05.75).

Bowdoin won the 4×400 relay race in a time of 3: 24.94 courtesy of Liam Nicoll, Colin Tiernan, John Kennealy and Garrett Thomas. Bennett Sneath took first place in the 1,000 in a time of 2:32.37, while Ben Torda won the 3,000 race in 8:40.86.

Bowdoin took eighth place overall at the NESCAC Championship last weekend at Amherst College.

After an initial first-round win against Hamilton on Friday, the Polar Bears (4-13) dropped a 9-0 decision to Bates in the quarterfinal before also falling to Amherst (6-3) and Wesleyan (9-0) in the consolation bracket.

Ben Bristol was the lone Polar Bear to steal a set against the Bobcats, dropping a 3-1 (11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11- 1) decision.

The Polar Bears battled well in the lower half of the bracket against the Purple & White, picking up wins from George Cooley (3-0 at No. 6), Tyler Shonrock (3-2 at No. 7) and Drew Clark (3-0 at No. 8). Amherst was able to prevail in a trio of close 3-2 wins at positions 2, 3 and 4 to pull out the victory.

Against Wesleyan, Bristol battled well in a 3-2 setback (11-1, 10-12, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7), while James Paolella and Ian Squiers both fell by 3-1 scores.

Bowdoin will return to action with its final regular season match on Friday at the Lubin Center against Colby (6 p.m.) in a match rescheduled from Jan. 24.

Women’s squash

The Polar Bears took sixth place overall at the NESCAC Championship this past weekend at Amherst.

After an initial first-round win against Hamilton on Friday, the Polar Bears (6-10) dropped a 9-0 decision to Williams in the quarterfinals before rebounding to defeat Tufts (5-4) in the consolation bracket.

In the fifth/sixth place match, Amherst edged Bowdoin, 5-4.

Alexa Horwitz was the lone Polar Bear to steal a set against the Ephs, dropping a 3-1 (9-11, 11-1, 11-4, 11-2) decision at No. 3.

The Polar Bears won the top five positions of their match against Tufts to take the tight win. Sarah Nelson and Tully Ross took 3-0 sweeps, while Lindsey Bindra, Horwitz and Chloe Polikoff all earned 3-1 triumphs.

In their final match of the weekend, the Polar Bears failed to best Amherst despite valiant efforts across the lineup. Bindra and Polikoff earned 3-2 wins, while Horwitz and Ross posted 3-1 wins. The Polar Bears suffered 3-0 losses at every other position as the Purple & White took the win.

Bowdoin will return to action with its final regular season match on Friday at the Lubin Center against Colby (6 p.m.) in a match rescheduled from Jan. 24.
