BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School girls jayvee Orange basketball team had a busy weekend, defeating Biddeford, 69-25, on Friday night, and falling to “Battle of the Bridge” rival Mt. Ararat, 55-48, on Saturday.

MacKenzie Burrows had a strong game for the Dragons against Biddeford, scoring 20 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out six assists. Brunswick raced out to a 12-0 first-quarter lead and held a 31-11 advantage at halftime.

The Dragons used a 26-7 third-quarter run to put any attempt of a Tiger comeback at rest. Rosalie White added 10 points for the Dragons. Emily LaRochelle chipped in nine points, while teammates Holly Black and Alexis Nuptial split 16 points.

On Saturday, the Eagles ended Brunswick’s 10-game winning streak as Mt. Ararat out-scored the Dragons 33-9 from the foul line.

The Eagles opened the game with a 15-8 first-quarter advantage before the Dragons fought back to enter the half even at 26.

Brunswick opened the third quarter strong to take a six-point lead before the Eagles closed the half with a 7-0 run to hold a one-point advantage entering the fourth quarter. Despite several lead changes during the final quarter, the Eagles put the game away by scoring 14 points from the foul line.

Theresa Breed scored 14 of her game-high 24 points from the charity line to lead Mt. Ararat. She also had 14 rebounds. Alexa Eaton, who was 8-of-10 from the foul line, added 14 points, while Kyla Greenleaf scored 11 points for Mt. Ararat. Ainsley Bryant had five points, seven rebounds and six steals, with Abby Sirois pulling down 12 boards.

LaRochelle had the hot hand for Brunswick, scoring 23 points including three 3- point field goals. Alexis Guptill added 10 points for the Dragons, who are 11-3 on the season.
