“You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.” Mahatma Gandhi

The snow has stopped falling and the light from the skies breaks overhead, over everything. Nature whispers to our soul. Our community vibrates with wonderful events enabling us to live in harmony with these cold winter months.

Organizations point to ways aiming for enjoyment while passing this season. We are connected to one another using abilities, talents and unique gifts promoting enthusiasm, hope and harmony on planet earth. These days can be a pleasure as we restore our fitness, vigor and happiness. We try to better our life and our world.

We must thank and appreciate the effort, time, talent and the many hands that strive to reclaim the things that made America great. The leading edge moves forward with all endeavors. Thoughts are alive, they have energy. Folks are sowing seeds that benefit others, teaching, creativity, tireless work, vision, inspiration and more.

Maine is a place of natural beauty and boundless opportunity. Folks remember the values that made America the nation that she is.

Our communities have an invisible intelligence to giving courage to create and dream. We have a variety of winter outdoor recreation plus indoor sports and culture. One can play: sledding, skating, snowshoeing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and ice fishing. For skiing there are beautiful paths or smooth downhill tracks. There are also backcountry trails that wind across the state.

There is always something to do. We enjoy seasonal fairs, food festivals, concerts, art exhibits, holiday craft fairs and tree lighting ceremonies.

There so many things that winter has to offer and enjoy. How about a horse drawn sleigh ride through snowcapped woods of Maine. After the ride, hot chocolate will be enjoyed next to the fireplace at Rocking Horse Stables in Kennebunk. Each ride is about 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. The trip fee is $17/members and $20 for non-members.

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, Feb. 1; with a minimum of 10 participants. For more information, call Saco Parks and Recreation at 283 -3139 or email parksandrec@sacomaine.org.

The Saco Museum always has interesting exhibits. The Museum will hold “Winter in Maine” on view from Jan. 17 through Feb. 25. Just the name sounds intriguing.

Do you wonder what life must have been like for Mainers during the cold winter months 200 years? The exhibition will examine traditional winter work, such as logging and ice harvesting, as well as a variety of winter outdoor recreations like sledding, snowshoeing and skiing. I have heard many memories from folks of the happy past skating on the Westbrook Rink; and it still goes on.
