Sheffield — Stanley Edward Munsey, Sr. was called home to Heaven on January 22, 2017. He died peacefully at his home in Madison, Alabama. He was born on March 12, 1934, one of six children, to Estelle and Maynard Munsey in Brunswick, Maine. He is predeceased by his parents, one brother, Emery Munsey, and one sister, Joan Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lee, with whom he shared 62 happy years; his children, Stan Munsey, Jr (Donna) and Michele Elizabeth Denton (Keith); his most beloved grandsons, Matthew Denton of Knoxville TN, Stephen Denton (Caroline) of Auburn, AL, and Philip Denton of Huntsville, AL, all of whom hung the moon; his brother and close friend, Richard Munsey (Martha); sisters, Dolores Williams and Elaine Griffin; a special sister-in-law, Betty Anne Storer; nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his loyal dog, Rusty. He appreciated the devotion and friendship of special secretaries Janice Newman, Debbie Stutts and Judy Holley. Stan also loved his special neighbors in Sheffield, Dutch and JoAnn Maxwell and Sheila Hawk, and Helen Peek in Madison.

Stan enjoyed his young life in Maine where, for a period of time, he had his own lobster business, along with other adventurous endeavors. He was the quarterback for Brunswick High School and loved his teammates and classmates, with whom he remained close friends until his passing. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army, in which he served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY, followed by serving as an ROTC instructor at Middle Tennessee State College (now, MTSU). Following his service in the Army, he attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, and graduated with honors. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, La, which he attended on a full scholarship. He was admitted to the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama State Bars. Upon moving to the Shoals in the late ’60s, he served as Executive Director of the Council of Local Governments, then entered private law practice in Tuscumbia, where he practiced for more than three decades. He also served for many years as attorney for the Colbert County School Board, from which he retired just a few years ago. A devoted and diligent worker, he was blessed with a brilliant mind and provided help to many with wise counsel and care.

Stan loved sailing in the Caribbean with his dear friends/ cousins, Thomas and Jennie Weatherall, as well as extensive travel throughout the United States with his wife and children. His family was his passion and joy!

He had a multitude of friends during his lifetime and was known for his faith in Jesus Christ, his loyalty, his generosity, fairness and love of country. He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, where he loved the Travelers Sunday School class. After moving to Madison, AL, in 2015 to be near his children, he attended Valley Presbyterian Church.

Upon retirement and his move to Madison, he relished his time and friendship with his son-in-law, Keith Denton, who devoted countless hours with such loving care during his illness. He relished, as well, the time with his beloved daughter, Michele, and son, Stanley, both of whom gave such love, care and support.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church, Tuscumbia. Burial will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery.

The family appreciates the kindness and compassionate care from Good Samaritan Hospice in Madison, especially Michelle Uchida and Sharon Wilson.
