On Jan. 22, churches across the world will be observing the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
In a deeply divided society, it becomes more urgent for Christians to seek a united voice and to declare the hope we share. Locally we will be celebrating our unity through worship that has been planned by Catholics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Congregationalists, Baptists and independent Christian fellowships. The Executive Officer of the Maine Council of Churches will participate and the order of worship was developed by an international ecumenical group in preparation for the 500th Year of the Reformation anniversary.
The service will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church, on McKeen Street in Brunswick at 2:30 p.m. A coffee hour will follow the worship service. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for each of us to seek out areas where agreement is possible in faith and in daily life and to work together for the good of all. All are welcome and invited to attend.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
