Christmas Giving

By now most of us have finished up our Christmas shopping. Christmas shopping can be fun when we find the perfect gift for someone because it brings delight both to us and to the receiver of the gift. Shopping for a gift for someone helps us to get to know that person even better than we already know them, for we have to search out that person’s needs, and desires. We study their style, their tastes, and their personalities and do our best to come up with something that will give them pleasure. Recognizing and accepting the gifts that God gives us helps us to know him better, and it is in our gifts where God is closest to us, for these gifts enable us to carry out God’s purpose for our lives. We learn to use our energy and creativity to grow them, and, like the good and faithful servant in the parable of the talents, (Matt. 25:14-20) return them to him with interest. And since it is Christmas, we can wrap them in shiny, colorful paper with fluffy big bows on top. What could delight God any more than that?
