Passing it Along
A few days ago I saw a jet plane climbing steadily up into the heavens, leaving a long white streak in its wake and I marveled at how far we have advanced in the field of aviation in the last century. The Wright brothers followed a dream, carried it as far as they were able, and then left it behind for others to build on. What will we leave behind for others to build on? What will our legacy be? Some of us may accomplish great deeds that attract a lot of attention. But small things matter too. Acts of loving kindness, a listening ear, a forgiving heart, and a life well lived can have an impact, and may have the potential to grow when others see it, recognize its value, and incorporate it into their own lives. Jesus passed on to us a legacy of healing, forgiveness, love of God and our neighbors, and justice for all. Our Christian faith is alive and well today because the disciples built on this and passed it along to others. How is God working in our lives? Something to ponder as we pray our way through the season of Advent.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
