Inside Naples

3 min read

The holidays are on! Have you seen the amazing lights on The Barn in Naples right at the intersection of Route 302 and 35? Wow. Every time I drive into town and see those lights, I get warm and fuzzy inside. Great job! How did they ever get those lights so perfectly hung? They should offer a class on Holiday Tree Lighting 101. I’d be the first in line to sign up.

Holidays in Naples

Head down to the Village Green and celebrate the holidays with your neighbors. Naples Main Street is hosting a fabulous Naples Village Winter Holiday Festival this Saturday, Dec. 10. Stop off at the library first for the Cookie Walk at 10:30 a.m. (see below). Then head to the Village Green. Activities, food and events are happening all day. There is way too much going on to list here, so check out Naples Main Street’s website for a complete listing. Go to the  Town of Naples website at www.townofnaples.org and click on the link to the Naples Main Street site.

Naples Main Street was originally established in 2006 for the revitalization of the Village District. Today, this non-profit corporation works to: maintain the beautification of the Naples Causeway, including but not limited to the flags and banners that line the street; organize and raise funds for community events, like the annual holiday tree lighting party, Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July, Harvest Festival and more; improve relations between the town and businesses; increase public involvement and pride in Naples, for residents and visitors; and foster a greater sense of community and hospitality in Naples.

Everyone looks forward to the Umbrella Factory’s Annual Christmas Family Night. This is Year 17 for this event. Head on down and join the fun Thursday, Dec. 17 from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. There will be food, prizes and even Santa! Free ice cream and entertainment are included. (Hey, why not fill out a job application while you are there? They’re hiring.)

December at the library
On Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., visit the Naples Public Library for the Cookie Walk Fundraiser. Scrumptious delights are just $5 a bag. Crafts and festivities for all are also part of the fun. Visit with and meet local author Cynthia Grimm and Kendall the Therapy Dog

Santa and Mrs. Clause Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. Bring a dish and stay for the Community Potluck Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. The snow date is Thursday, Dec. 15.

The library offers mental and physical stimulation. Each Tuesday, join John Cuadrado for his free class, Tai Ji Quan 18, at 9 a.m, or, for a drop-in fee of $10,  take an adult yoga class with Deb Goldstein at 4 p.m.

Note that the library will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 31.

Resolutions

You hear it every year. Maybe it’s even you saying it: Okay, this is the year I will get in shape, change my habits to healthy ones. The masses start out with the best of intentions, but few will continue past February on this quest. I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer. But think about it: We see the gym packed in January, and by February, we all have a bit more room to move! Another factor that makes the change so difficult is the enormous amount of conflicting information on how to exercise and what to eat for optimal health. Fountain of You Fitness in Naples wants to help one lucky winner and a friend make this the year the change becomes a lifestyle.

The fitness studio is running a contest. Tell them in one paragraph why you (and your bestie) should win three free months of classes, along with a personalized workout plan and nutrition guidance. Submissions must be received by Dec 22, winners will be announced via Facebook and email on Dec. 25. Contestants must demonstrate a strong case that now is the time they are ready and state why they are unhappy with their health and wellness at this time. Enter on the Fountain of You Fitness Facebook page or email your paragraph to lrcjv@fairpoint.net. Good luck!
