ARUNDEL — Two teenagers escaped major injury after striking a utility pole in Arundel on Tuesday, causing their vehicle to roll onto its side and disrupting electrical service in the area.

Sheriff Bill King in a release Wednesday said at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dep. Gregg Sevigny responded to the crash, in the area of 244 Sinnott Road in Arundel.

The 17-year-old operator of a 2009 Ford Fusion was traveling on Sinnott Road toward Kennebunkport when the vehicle left the road, striking the pole.

The crash caused the pole to snap and the vehicle to roll onto its side, with electrical wires dangling over the car.

King said the two teens were able to crawl out of the vehicle when first responders arrived. The passenger was not injured in the crash, and the driver was taken to the hospital by his family with only a laceration to his hand.

The teens’ names have not been released because of their ages. King said Wednesday one of the teens is from Arundel and the other is from Kennebunkport.

Arundel Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene along with Kennebunk Light and Power, King said.

The road was closed for three hours while KLP replaced the pole and reconnected the power lines, restoring power to the area.

King said speed was a factor in the crash. The driver was issued a summons for imprudent speed and a seatbelt violation.
