BIDDEFORD — Maine Teacher of the Year finalist and Thornton Academy faculty member David Arenstam will stop at McArthur Library on Thursday to discuss his debut novel, “Homecoming: A Soldier’s Story of Loyalty, Courage, and Redemption.”
Arenstam, who is a teacher, writer and freelance journalist from Saco, wrote the historical novel based on interviews and news stories about Russell Warriner, a 68-year-old Vietnam veteran and Old Orchard Beach resident. The novel traces two American aviators as they embark on a dangerous mission in Vietnam.
The event will take place at the McArthur Library Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
