Dorothy “Dot” Fern Phinney, 95, died peacefully Nov. 12, 2016, at Southern Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Casco, on Nov. 22, 1921, one of 13 children born to William and Mary Maines. She attended Casco schools. In her early years, she was an accomplished seamstress making draperies and beautiful wedding dresses. She made wedding cakes, as well. She loved her years at Sebago Lake with her husband, Warren, and children Judy, Carolyn and Ray, siblings and friends. She also loved camping, campfires, playing cards and bingo. She loved lobster and was known for her fabulous lobster newburg.

Later, after retiring from Data General, she enjoyed playing bingo with her girls, sisters and nieces. She coordinated traveling bus tours and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Georgia, Florida, and other New England areas.

Dot loved going to yard sales and picking strawberries and blueberries with her granddaughter, Charlene. Ray always made sure her car was in running order for her escapades and adventures. She was especially proud of all of her grandchildren: Joey, Jim, John, Jeff Fournier, Charlene-Raye Phinney Joyner, and their spouses, for all their accomplishments.

While at Biddeford Estates, she enjoyed taking bus tours with the staff and other seniors. She loved her visits from all of her family and friends. Her face would especially light up and smile seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by all of her siblings; her husband; son-in-laws Joseph Fournier and Tony Moore; and daughter, Judith “Judy” Fournier.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Moore of Buxton; a son, Raymond, and daughter-in-law Anne-Marie Phinney of Waxhaw, North Carolina; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

The family extended its thanks to Amy Fournier for her loving care and attention, Biddeford Estates and staff, and Southern Maine Medical Center.
