Wisdom
Remember the Wise Old Owl, and what a wise old bird he is? It appears that he is listening, and wise people are usually good listeners. Wisdom is not merely about having knowledge. It is much more than that, and in many ways it is not even necessary to possess great knowledge to have wisdom. Wisdom is usually present in those who have an intimate knowledge of God. Wisdom is not so much something you attain as something you grow into. It is about seeing past the obvious appearances of things. It is the ability to discern or judge what is true, right or lasting, and the capacity to figure out what is of value in life. Prudence is based on good judgment, a feeling for what is the right thing to do. Brilliant people without wisdom or prudence often get into positions of power and make a mess of things, but the prudent person will think before acting, and as a result will more easily avoid actions which one’s conscience deems to be morally wrong. Strengthened by wisdom and prudence, and nourished by the love of God, our lives can be filled with tremendous energy and power with which to serve the world around us.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
