ARUNDEL — A 26-yearold local woman was expected to make her first court appearance this morning in connection with a crash Saturday night where she allegedly ran from the scene.

Sheriff ’s deputies caught up with the driver – identified as Samantha Cook – about an hour later the crash was reported.

Deputy Rachel Horning was called to 172 Campground Road at about 11 p.m. The caller reported that a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee had gone off the roadway and crashed into some trees and that a woman got out of the vehicle and ran away toward Limerick Road.

Deputies conducted a preliminary investigation and identified Cook as the owner and operator of the Jeep. Shortly after midnight, Deputy Rachel Horning located Cook. After interviewing her, Horning placed Cook under arrest for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended registration plate, Sheriff William King said in a statement.

A records check showed Cook had been out on bail for a previous domestic violence charge and one of the conditions of her release was not to consume alcohol – deputies alleged the woman had been drinking. Consequently, said King, Cook was charged with violating conditions of release.
