From the Journal Tribune: “The long wait is over and Saturday is the open house for the newly renovated Dorothy E. Stevens Community Center. Before the doors even opened bookings for the Steven center, located in West Kennebunk, were already coming in. ‘From the minute people found that it’s going to open, I’ve been getting two calls a day,’ said Sondra Shields.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Investigation of the explosion which destroyed a fish stand at the entrance of the East Machias river Saturday morning had failed to determine its origin today. That dynamite or some other form of explosive had been placed there was established, but whether it had been kept in storage or put there to destroy the building was not ascertained. The theory suggested as most probable was that the fish stand was deliberately blown up.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
