Hurricane Matthew did finally send some rain our way, and with it winds like crazy. On Monday, I passed by Long Lake and witnessed the Songo River Queen having a heck of a time docking the boat. The winds had blown the boat straight up to the dock, perpendicular to its normal docking position. There were about 10 brave souls waiting to board as they held their hats on tight. I wouldn’t have been so eager to board the Queen on such a windy day. The white caps on Long Lake were fierce.

The geat pumpkin

The Lake Region Vocational Center’s 6th Annual Pumpkin Auction comes to town Wednesday, Oct. 19. Hosted by the Black Bear Café, this is always a fun, family- friendly eveningto support vocational programs. Viewing of the donated, creatively carved pumpkins begins at 5:30 p.m. with the auction at 6 p.m. The pumpkins this year were donated by Five Field Farms in Bridgton and Hancock Family Farm in Casco. Then they are distributed to artistic, adventurous souls, to use their imaginations and come up with their masterpiece! This event is always fun! Of course you can buy food while the auction is on, and don’t forget some funds to bid on your favorite pumpkin.

Holiday festival

I don’t want to push the Holiday Season upon us, especially with Halloween not even here yet. However, the American Legion Ladies’s Auxillary of Naples, Raymond and Casco, Unit 155 is on the ball, already posting flyers of their upcoming Indoor Holiday Flea Market and Craft Fair. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with plenty of great food to buy as you shop for handcrafted holiday gifts. Vendors and crafters are still being sought. Tables are just $20 and can be arranged by contacting Marion Merrill at 693-6016 or at mxmerrill@roadrunner.com

Harvest festival

Looking for something fun to do this Saturday besides apple picking? Head over to the Animal Rescue Unit’s Costumed Road Race and Harvest Event. The race is just $10 to enter. You can register online and get more information at aruinfo@yahoo.com. The event, held at 73 Middle Ridge Road in Bridgton, begins at noon and will include food, ghost walks, readings, pumpkins and more.

Come out on Friday, Nov. 18, to Fountain of You Event Space in Naples and decide for yourself what all the fuss is about. Psychic reader Sonny Robinson will attempt to reach your loved ones on the other side. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Space is limited, so advanced ticket purchase is a must. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased on Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com.
