CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Roberto Aguayo kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired Monday night, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers, 17-14.
Aguayo had missed from 33 and 46 yards earlier in the game, and was just 3 of 7 on field goals this season before the winning kick.
Jameis Winston was 18 of 30 for 219 yards and a touchdown, and led a 66-yard drive to get the Buccaneers (2-3) into field-goal range. A costly 15-yard facemask penalty on Kony Ealy hurt the Panthers.
The Panthers turned the ball over four times, three of those by Derek Anderson, who was filling in for the concussed Cam Newton.
Greg Olsen had a career-high 181 yards receiving on nine catches and Cameron Artis-Payne ran for two touchdowns for the Panthers (1-4).
NOTES
BRONCOS: GM John Elway said doctors ordered Coach Gary Kubiak to take a week off after experiencing a migraine and that special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis will serve as interim coach Thursday night in San Diego.
Kubiak was lethargic following Denver’s 23-16 loss to Atlanta on Sunday night and was taken from the stadium via ambulance and hospitalized overnight.
He was in the process of being discharged from the hospital and sent home when Elway held a news conference at team headquarters.
Kubiak, 55, had a health scare in 2013 when he was coach of the Houston Texans, suffering a “mini-stroke” and collapsing at halftime of a game against Indianapolis. He returned 10 days later.
On Monday, DeCamillis declined to say whether Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch would be under center when the Broncos (4-1) visit the Chargers (1-4) on Thursday night.
RAVENS: For the second time in five years – and again after a regular-season loss to Washington – Coach John Harbaugh fired his offensive coordinator in an effort to jumpstart a struggling unit.
Marc Trestman was let go Monday, a day after the play caller abandoned a productive running game during a 16-10 loss.
Trestman, who replaced Gary Kubiak after 2014, lasted all of 21 games as the Ravens’ offensive play caller.
Quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg will become quarterback Joe Flacco’s fifth offensive coordinator in as many seasons.
CARDINALS: Coach Bruce Arians said he expects quarterback Carson Palmer to pass the last stage of the concussion protocol Tuesday.
That indicates Palmer could be back for next Monday night’s home game against the New York Jets.
WASHINGTON: Receiver Pierre Garcon and defensive end Ricky Jean Francois flew to Haiti to deliver medical supplies to victims of Hurricane Matthew.
Garcon and Jean Francois, who are of Haitian descent, traveled on owner Dan Snyder’s plane. The team said Snyder and his wife, Tanya, flew a plane full of supplies to the Bahamas on Saturday.
Coach Jay Gruden said the players were “first class” to spend some time off to hand out supplies.
BROWNS: Rookie quarterback Cody Kessler has a chance to start Sunday at Tennessee despite injuries to his ribs and chest suffered in the loss to the Patriots.
In other news, Cleveland claimed offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper, a former first-round pick by Arizona, off waivers from New England, where he had been inactive for the first four games.
DOLPHINS: Linebacker Koa Misi has been placed on injured reserve because of a neck injury, and cornerback Bene Benwikere has been claimed off waivers.
Misi, a seven-year starter, missed the past two games and is likely to be sidelined the rest of the season.
The Panthers released Benwikere last week.
