A business meeting was held, and several projects were discussed that will take place this fall, including a community service project that has been chosen to celebrate the anniversary of the DAR on Tuesday.
A program was presented by Dan LeBlond, vice president of the Biddeford Historical Society. He gave a talk about Richard Vines, who established the first permanent settlement in Biddeford in 1616.
There is a large granite monument in Vines’ memory in Biddeford Pool that was built in 1920 by historian William Barry of Kennebunk.
The 400th anniversary of Vine’s expedition to Maine will be celebrated during open house of the Biddeford Historical Society at the Old Meetinghouse, Route 9, Biddeford, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Admission to the celebration is free.
