BIDDEFORD — A Biddeford man remains at York County Jail today for failing to register as a sex offender.
Maine State Police said on their Facebook page Saturday that Clifford Mason, 30, of Biddeford was arrested downtown Friday on a nationwide extraditable warrant for failing to register as a sex offender based on a previous conviction for sexual abuse of a minor.
Sgt. Jeremy Forbes with the state police reportedly observed Mason drinking from an open bottle of Fireball whiskey on Jefferson Street at about 4:22 p.m. Friday. Mason fled when confronted, police said, but was later apprehended behind a trash dumpster on Elm Street.
Police say Mason attempted to kick out the windows of the officer’s cruiser and that assistance from the Biddeford Police Department was required to transport Mason to the county jail in Alfred.
In addition to failing to register as a sex offender, Mason was also charged with refusing to submit to arrest, disorderly conduct and for violating release conditions at the time of his arrest.
He is currently being held at the county jail on $1,250 bail.
