Shortly after Gov. LePage’s most recent outburst, I contacted my state Senator, Ron Collins, and asked him to speak up against the governor’s racist and vulgar rants. He assured me that the Legislature would be meeting to “discuss our options in dealing with the governor,” and that “it would be dealt with appropriately.”
Well, they did meet, and apparently decided the best option was to do nothing!
Even though he agreed with me that the governor was out of line, he does not seem to be able to stand up to him. In the past, I have contacted him about other issues, specifically regarding transportation, a committee on which he has a leadership position. I never got a response.
This year, I am voting for someone different, someone who I feel will show leadership in Augusta and engage with his constituents in District 34 (Wells, Kennebunk, Acton, Lebanon, Berwick and parts of North Berwick).

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
