From the Journal Tribune: “Summer testing at Kennebunk beaches and the Kennebunk River are completed, but no ‘smoking gun’ has been identified as a primary culprit behind the record high pollution. The next step will be to create a watershed action plan under the auspices of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farms.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “One of Maine’s largest food outlets – the Sampson supermarkets – are under new ownership. President Walter F. Whittier reported Monday that Hannaford Bros. Co. food wholesalers have acquired the 31 Sampson stores, most of them in Maine but some in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Dissatisfaction among the 15 laborers employed by the Otto Nelson company of Bangor, who have the contract for the erection of the $50,000 structure which is being erected by the Sanford Trust Building association at the corner of Main and Washington streets, Sanford, developed into a strike Tuesday, the men demanding that their wages be increased from $2.25 per day to $2.50. ”
