WELLS — Two people were arrested last week and charged with heroin trafficking by Maine State Police on the Maine Turnpike, police reported on its social media page Saturday.
On Wednesday, troopers arrested Richard Mathieu, 43, and April Umble, 37, after a search turned up two “fingers,” or 20 grams, of heroin that the two had allegedly tossed out the window after their truck was stopped.
The suspect’s addresses were not provided.
Police originally stopped the truck for a burned-out license plate light. As the Chevy Avalanche stopped, the trooper allegedly observed objects in the shape of fingers of heroin being tossed from the window .
Mathieu told police his license was suspended and that he shouldn’t be driving. He was expected to be charged for driving after suspension. Police said Umble was on probation for another unspecified crime.
