BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce was recently awarded a grant of $7,000 from the Maine Office of Tourism.
The grant will be used for marketing the region during the upcoming fall season. This was a competitive process, and the chamber’s successful application was chosen over dozens of others in the state. It is a matching grant, with another $7,000 being committed to the effort by the Boothbay- Boothbay Harbor Joint Economic Development Committee (JEDC) for a total of $14,000.
Phil Savignano, senior tourism officer at MOT, said, “The review committee felt (the) application was well written and the proposed projects showed a strong coalition of partners and a focused approach to enhancing existing shoulder season traffic.”
The grant proposal was prepared with the help of Mary Ellen Barnes, executive director of the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission, as an ongoing part of her efforts to aid and assist the JEDC.
“This is the first state tourism marketing grant initiated by a collaborative public process in Lincoln County,” Barnes said. “The peninsula communities have a great history of working together.”
The JEDC has contracted with Green Tree Events of Saco to help in the marketing effort for the upcoming fall/winter season.
