Donald T. Sellers, 45, was held on $20,000 cash bail at York County Jail following the incident.
In a social media posting, Kittery police said it received a report of theft and assault at the store. When officers arrived, they found a suspect fighting with a loss prevention associate employed by the store, according to police.
Police allege that the loss prevention team saw Sellers stealing more than $300 worth of merchandise. When the team confronted him, Sellers assaulted a store employee during his exit, police said.
“The loss prevention staff attempted to detain the man at the scene and he continued to fight with the employee while having the merchandise in his possession,” police said.
The loss prevention associate sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
Sellers, whom police said has a lengthy criminal history, was charged with felony robbery.
