BRUNSWICK

Bishop Robert P. Deeley will celebrate a Mass for Educators on Sunday, August 28, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church on 39 Pleasant Street in Brunswick.

Teachers, professors, administrators and staff from pre-kindergarten to the collegiate level as well as teachers of religious education are invited to attend the Mass with their families.

A reception will follow the Mass and provide the opportunity for teachers from different schools and settings to form relationships and offer appreciation for their shared vocation.

“Our gathering will bless and honor those who form our young people in understanding our world and discovering how to live in it as individuals possessing spirit and knowledge,” said Deeley. “Teachers open the minds of our youngsters to the wonder of the world in which they live and open their hearts to recognize that they are called to care for each other and all the creation that God has given us. They help encourage and inspire our children to live in hope of a better world with greater possibilities for all.”

Those gathered will be able to view a gallery of quotes featuring the reflections of prominent Mainers on teachers who made a significant difference in their lives. Special commemorative bookmarks, created for the occasion, will also be issued to those in attendance.

Teachers who are planning to attend the Mass are asked to register at portlanddiocese.org/Mass-educators registration. There is no charge or free to attend.
