FCTV3 viewers might experience short delays in watching municipal meetings from the Town Council chambers for the remainder of August, while work is done in the cable TV room at the Town Hall.
Town-owned FCTV 3, available to Freeport residents who subscribe to Comcast, is based at the Freeport Town Hall. Its role is to provide awareness of events and town government business by recording the meetings on cable TV. FCTV is channel 3 for Comcast cable subscribers only. It does not come over the air nor can satellite subscribers receive it.
Starting Aug. 4 in the cable TV control room, technicians began relocating and replacing equipment and wiring with new technology designed to create more space, offer greater camera control and consume less energy, as well.
John Goran, an engineer with FCTV3, said that because the recording services would not be available in the Town Council chambers during the renovation.
FCTV3 planned to use a camcorder to record the Project Review Board meeting Aug. 10 and an Ordinance Committee meeting Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
“FCTV3 on Comcast and the live streaming service on fctv3.viebit.com are always available,” Goran said. “However, they may experience some short outages as equipment is moved. The video on demand service at fctv3.viebit.com will not be affected by these changes.”
Goran explained that video on demand is different from live streaming. Video on demand contains an extensive log of all municipal meetings, so it’s an archive. Video on demand is usually available a few hours following the end of a meeting.
Goran added that video on demand, while not live, offers an added service because viewers can review the content.
Following the completion of the Town Hall control room project, the Freeport Community Center microphone system will be renovated. The wireless microphone system will be replaced with new hard wiring and a microphone system that is identical to the microphones used in the Town Council chambers. The project will take approximately two weeks to complete, and is intended to address some of the live audio difficulties that have occurred recently using the wireless setup.
Video of official town business conducted at the community center is available on FCTV3.

FCTV3 will not be able to conduct video of municipal meetings in the Freeport Town Council chambers as usual during the rest of August.
