WATERBORO — York County Sheriff ’s Office and deputies with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating an industrial accident in East Waterboro that left one man dead late Friday morning.

Sheriff ’s deputies and emergency personnel were called to G and F Septic at 62 Sokokis Trail around 11:15 a.m. for reports of an industrial accident, York County Sheriff Bill King said in a news release.

According to police, David Egan, 49, of Waterboro was killed when he opened a trailer containing excavation debris. Police say the large debris, which included tree trunks, crushed Egan.

He most likely died shortly after the incident occurred, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

It is standard procedure for OSHA to investigate industrial accidents that result in death. An investigation is ongoing.
