
Harness racing, horse and oxen pulling, ATV mud runs, truck pulls, demolition derby, monster trucks and more return to town this week as part of the 162nd Topsham Fair.
The fun starts this evening with harness racing at 5 p.m. and free admission before the full-fledged fair gets underway Tuesday.
There are unlimited rides every day from Tuesday to Sunday provided by Rockwell Amusements. The midway opens at noon Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, and 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the fair closes at 10 p.m. Admission is $10 each Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday and $12 Thursday through Saturday. Kids under 36 inches tall get in for free. Tuesday, senior citizens get in for $3. Sunday is children’s day and children of military families under 16 get in for half-off with an ID.
The Exhibition Hall, cattle barn and Old McDonald’s Farms open at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Tuesday night the nationally touring Mallett Brothers Band will perform at 6 p.m.
The pig scramble starts with 6-year-olds Tuesday at 6 p.m. and the featured ATV mud runs start at 7 p.m. inside the race track.
On Wednesday night, the first demolition derby is at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand and there will be a car auction at 6:45 p.m. for anyone who wants to join in the smashing fun.
Marilyn Hunter, the fair’s director of entertainment and marketing, said the Monster Truck shows last year were such a hit they are returning this year — performing Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand.
Friday at 5 p.m., the Miss Topsham Fair and the Miss Teen Topsham Fair pageant is back, organized by Miss Maine 2014 Audrey Thames of Topsham.
Saturday night will feature the demolition derby at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. sponsored by Rusty’s Market. Sunday is the rain date for fireworks.
The fair concludes Sunday with a long list of events, including the Motor Menders Cruise in Car Show at 10 a.m., the fry pan throwing contest at noon, the He/She-Man Strength Competition at 2 p.m. and the Redneck Truck Pull at 4 p.m. The Puddinhead bluegrass band plays at 5:30 p.m.
