State police say a Lewiston man was killed in a crash Monday morning on the Maine Turnpike near the Gray exit.

Henry P. Roy, 89, died shortly after his arrival at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Stephen McCausland, Maine Public Safety spokesman.

Troopers said Roy struck a construction barrel and then paving equipment. The crash occurred just before the northbound Exit 63 exit ramp, according to the Maine Turnpike Authority.

Roy was pinned in his 2006 Mercury Marquis until rescue personnel freed him.

The operator of the pavement roller, 49-year-old Blaine Bradeen of Livermore was taken to the hospital with leg injuries.
