Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the play “West Side Story” at the City Theater in Biddeford. I was anticipating a nice way to spend a rainy day, as the play is one of my favorites. Little did I expect the incredibly professional quality production I saw with outstanding actors and actresses, beautiful singing and creative, skilled dancing.
But the best part of all was seeing two of the male leads played by Kennebunk High School graduates and brothers! Tony was played by Schuyler White, and Bernardo was played by Owen White. What an absolute joy to see boys I recognized from the high school turn into such outstanding adult performers. I sat in the auditorium absolutely spellbound by their beautiful voices, their skilled acting and their ability to orchestrate very complicated dance moves and fight scenes.
After seeing “West Side Story,” never have I been more proud of the wonderful arts programs offered by RSU 21. The show runs through Aug. 7. I hope you get to experience this beautiful production and can join me in sharing this pride!
