ALFRED — Rebecca Emery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution gathered in honor of Flag Day on June 4. The chapter is now on summer break, and will resume meetings in September.
A large numbers of members as well as several prospective members met at the Oak Street Bistro in Alfred, where they celebrated the holiday with a patriotic dessert consisting of vanilla ice cream, blueberries and strawberries. The guest of honor was Polly Bartow, honorary Maine state regent and past librarian general.
Following lunch, Chapter Regent Helen Newton presided over a business meeting. Vice regent Deborah Bragdon discussed interesting facts on the American Flag as well as Flag Day. Several members assisted in a flag folding ceremony.
In addition, Bartow performed an installation ceremony for the incoming officers for 2016 to 2019. The new officers are: regent Deborah Bragdon, vice regent Janice Teasenfitz, chaplain Mary Kinsley, recording secretary Elizabeth Harlow, corresponding secretary Marjorie Scott, treasurer Catherine Fisher, registrar Starr Bartlett, historian Leigh Olson and librarian Sally Foy.
