ELLSWORTH — The Saco Little League All-Stars closed out pool play at the 8-10 year old state softball tournament with a perfect 4-0 record after picking up a 10-5 win over Acadia on Monday.
The Saco squad will now play for the state championship on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined by tomorrow’s final day of pool play action.
Saco opened the scoring on Monday in the top of the first inning when Renee Gonneville singled and later scored on a passed ball.
Acadia would answer in the bottom of the first with five runs thanks to two errors, two walks and two timely hits.
Saco would score six runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning.
Gonneville and Lindsay DesRoberts had two hits each and Annabelle Fournier walked three times and added one hit.
Gonneville scored three times, while DesRoberts scored twice and Jessica Dow, Fournier, Kaitlyn Paradis, Jordan Dube and Madisyn Ayres each crossed the plate once in the win.
Sophia Bogardus started the game in the circle and Dow would close it out. Dow finished with 16 strikeouts.
The local All-Stars will be the first 8-10 year old team from Saco Little League to play for a state championship.
