BATH — Beth Israel Congregation of Bath has announced that their Sabbath morning Bible study group has been joined by the Bible study group that has been meeting at Bowdoin College for the past 15 years. The combined group, known as the Havurah, meets each Saturday at the Bath synagogue at 10 a.m. under the leadership of Rabbi Simeon Maslin of Harpswell. Currently, they are reading and discussing the weekly Torah portions and the accompanying readings from the Prophets.
The morning begins in the main synagogue with a brief Sabbath service, followed by the reading of the Torah. The group then adjourns to the vestry for their study-discussion and coffee. The meetings end at 11:30 a.m. Anyone who is interested in a critical study of Bible texts, conversation, and sharing the Sabbath invited to join the group. Beth Israel is located at 862 Washington St., Bath.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
