That’s what Brian Dumoulin and his family heard as they rode in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ parade celebrating their Stanley Cup championship win earlier this month – and in August the Dumoulins will likely hear that again as the former Biddeford High School standout will bring the Cup back to his hometown to celebrate with friends, family and the entire city.
As of right now, the Stanley Cup is scheduled to arrive in Biddeford on Wednesday, August 3 for a day of celebration.
“This is our first time, so I don’t know how firm all that is … but we are pretty confident that it will be (August 3),” said Pete Dumoulin, Brian’s father. “It will show up sometime in the morning and stay until the next morning.”
According to Pete Dumoulin, the plans are still being made for the day, but the family is hoping to have a public gathering at the Biddeford Ice Arena – a place where Brian Dumoulin shined as a member of the Tigers.
Brian Dumoulin helped the Tigers capture back-to-back state titles in 2007 and 2008 before heading to Boston College and helping the Eagles win two national championships.
Pete Dumoulin believes his son becoming the first-ever Maine player to capture the Stanley Cup will help the sport grow in Biddeford and throughout the entire state.
“I love it. I think it’s good for the kids and good for the state to know that a (Maine) kid made it,” said Pete Dumoulin.
Brian Dumoulin, who scored a goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals to help the Penguins secure the title, was joined by his family for the victory parade in Pittsburgh on June 15.
“That was awesome. I mean to get in the back of the pickup truck, we were at the tail end, so you know it’s kind of like being behind Hannaford’s in the La Kermesse Parade … when you work through the city and there is a 15-to-20 people deep on either side yelling ‘Dumo, Dumo, Dumo’ it’s pretty intense,” said Pete Dumoulin. “I’m sure they were yelling for Crosby as soon as they saw him in the truck behind us, but where we were they recognized Bri and those (fans) are insane, they’re awesome.”
Brian Dumoulin is back in Boston, where he has an apartment, but he has made several trips to Biddeford since winning the Cup.
“He came home for Father’s Day like a good boy, so we went out and had a good day that day and he came back on Saturday for his grandfather’s birthday, so he’s been doing all the family things the right way,” said Pete.
The Penguins defenseman is also making his parents proud by taking classes at Boston College this summer as he closes in on his degree in business.
“He’s taking a class at BC, finishing up his degree for mom and dad,” said Pete.
NOTES: Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant and State Senator Susan Deschambault (D-Biddeford) have also been in talks with the Dumoulin family to honor Brian … Details will be announced once they are finalized for the August 3rd celebration in Biddeford.
