WELLS — A Sanford man died Tuesday morning when his car struck a tree and turned over on Littefield Road.
Peter Webber, 55, was driving east toward Route 1 in a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire when he drifted off the road near the 1400 block and struck a tree, according to the Wells Police Department. The force of the crash caused the car to roll over onto its roof onto the road, police said.
Members of the Wells PD, Wells Fire Department and an EMS crew tried unsuccessfully to save Webber’s life at the scene.
Littlefield Road was closed for just over two hours as a result of the accident, which is still under investigation.
