From the Journal Tribune: “Eight Hannaford employees were treated at Goodall Hospital for nausea, dizziness and other symptoms Tuesday afternoon, after a bottle apparently inserted into a recycling bin released a foul odor. Authorities believe the odor, described by employees as a chlorine-like smell, came from a swimming pool chemical.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Principal Mrs. Margaret H., Simpson and teachers of the Elementary School here submitted the following information relative to their pupils: All grades closed the school year with parties, and every grade received gold seals with blue ribbon awards in writing from Miss Katherine Caddigan, Rinehart writing supervisor. Many children who are in need of extra help in reading will attend the remedial reaching classes, beginning July 5.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Alan L. Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Burns of Saco, is a member of the Calvary of the National Guard ion Ohio, which is waiting orders to start for the border. The young Saco man has been in the employ of the large grain company ion Cincinnati, and enlisted in the National Guard in Ohio and was assigned to one of the troops in Calvary.”
