From the Journal Tribune: “The Northern York County YMCA has had a challenging year. In spite of rumors of instability, Board President Philip Denison and Executive Director Becky Harkema are confident about the new programs and new priorities their YMCA has set. The closure of downtown Biddeford branch of the YMCA almost a year ago, and the announcement that YMCA would, for the first time, be abandoning its plans to build a new facility in the Hollias/Buxton area, might have been the source of some of these rumors, said Dennison, adding that he himself heard that the YMCA in Biddeford will be closing.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Summer school classes will be held at Thornton Academy Saco, daily from June 27 to Aug. 5, according to Sidney O. Griffith, director of programs. Enrollment is open to all students currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12 and classes will run from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. It was announced by Griffith that this year the school hopes to offer full credit courses in physics or chemistry to help those students who have changed to the college course during their last two years and needs to make up the credit.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “The finance committee of Biddeford city government finished its duties Friday evening in connection with making up the appropriations for the ensuing year, and recommend to the city council at the next regular monthly meeting a budget amounting in the different departments to a total of $166,310. Increases were recommended in many departments, including bridges and playgrounds.” — Krysteana Scribner
