SHAPLEIGH  — Maine wardens say a boater who fell overboard Saturday night was run over by the vessel piloted by his twin brother and later died in hospital.

Authorities say 31-year-old Shapleigh resident Jeff Beattie was riding in the bow of a 17-foot motorboat on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh when he fell overboard. His twin brother was piloting the boat.

The two men were accompanied by their spouses and a friend when the accident occurred.

Wardens say Beattie was pulled back into the boat and flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said Sunday.
