SANFORD — The Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum will host “One Teacher, One Student and the Impact of Elementary School Art Instruction, 100 Years ago in Sanford” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 505 Main St.
Bob Morrison, a family member, will present the story of Hazel G. Andrews, Sanford’s art teacher during the early 1900s.
Andrews shared her love and talent of art with her Sanford pupil and life-long friend, the noted Maine artist
Ansel B. Sterling. She also taught art from her home for many years.
Her family met her students and friends in the art world. They all knew of her fondness for Sanford and her first job, as well as her protégé, Ansel Sterling.
The museum is handicapped accessible. The event is free and open to the public.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
