For its final concert of the 2015-16 season, the DaPonte String Quartet has chosen an unusual theme.

“Dino’s Hit List” consists of pieces that violinist and founding member Ferdinand “Dino” Liva has always wanted to play, finds most challenging or most loves playing. The series will be performed from May 13-22 in five venues in Portland, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Damariscotta and Thomaston.

“Dino’s Hit List” consists of Mozart’s Quartet in B Flat Major, one of the Prussian Quartets that feature the cello; Ottorino Respighi’s String Quartet in D Major; and Beethoven’s String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2.

Liva chose the first one because he’d never done a Respighi quartet.

“It’s especially challenging because the harmonies are so dense and played in such a high range that it makes intonation particularly difficult,” Liva said.

Liva, 49, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory and earned a Masters degree at Temple University. While an Assistant Professor of violin and chamber music at Wilkes University, in 1991, he became a founding member of the DaPonte String Quartet in Philadelphia.

Performances of “Dino’s Hit List” will be:

• May 13 at 7:30 p.m., the Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St., Damariscotta

• May 14 at 4 p.m., St. Columba’s Church, 32 Emery Way, Boothbay Harbor

• May 15 at 3 p.m., St John’s Church, 200 Main St., Thomaston

• May 19 at 7:30 p.m., the Jewish Museum, 267 Congress St., Portland

• May 22 at 3 p.m., Unitarian Church, 15 Pleasant St., Brunswick.
