BRUNSWICK — In recent Brunswick Cal Ripken baseball action, the Mister Bagel Braves dropped one to the 99 Restaurant Diamondbacks, 9-5, then bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Topsham.
The Braves were a little wild in the D-backs game. Five free passes and four hit batsmen, doubles by Brian Connolly and A.J. Wolverton, plus a single apiece by Kevin Connolly, Jack Poulin and Tanner Rapoza were too much to overcome despite a valiant effort in the bottom of the sixth.
Diamondback pitching was stout as Rapoza and the Connolly boys combined for 13 strikeouts and just four hits.
All four hits for the Braves were singles, two by Cal Wilby and one each by Sam Masse and Kaleb Thompson. Evan Kilfoil was strong in relief for Mister Bagel, striking out six of the seven batters he faced.
The Topsham game was a pitcher’s duel with Braves pitchers, Sam Masse, Kaleb Thompson and Evan Kilfoil combining for 15 punchouts, no walks and just one hit, a bloop single by Kyler Brannan in the second.
Luke Spooner turned in a fine pitching performance and Shea Farrell had a great game behind the dish for Topsham.
Mister Bagel offense was provided by Cal Wilby with two singles, while Masse, Kilfoil and Max Hamilton chipped in with a single apiece.
