Brittny Asper will graduate May 22 after earning two degrees at Southern Maine Community College’s Midcoast Campus.
While at our campus at Brunswick Landing, she’s had a wide selection of course offerings and has enjoyed our state-of-the-art facilities. She’s been active with the student- run SMCC Midcoast Club, and for the past year she’s lived in our new residence hall.
“It’s just a really awesome small college campus,” Brittny says. “You can focus on your studies and get to know people around you. And it’s growing. I’m really proud of coming to this campus for the past three years and seeing it develop.”
You can see first-hand what Brittny is talking about during our Midcoast Campus Open House this Thursday, May 5, from 4-6 p.m. You’ll be able to tour our campus, explore our academic programs, meet faculty and staff, and learn about admissions, financial aid, student life and more. For more information and to register, visit smccME. edu/ openhouse.
The Midcoast Campus has come a long way since it opened in 2011 with 79 students.
Last fall, we opened our new L. L. Bean Learning Commons & Health Science Center, a tech-infused building that serves as the hub of our campus. It features quiet study rooms, a café, a library, advising offices, and charging and printing stations. It also houses high-tech laboratories and classroom space for Nursing and Health Sciences students.
We also opened our new residence hall, Orion Hall, with spacious suites for students. This past year, Brittny has been a resident advisor while living in one of the suites.
The Midcoast Campus now has nearly 600 students who enjoy the benefits of an all-inclusive college. We offer courses that support studies in pre-engineering, composites, business, health care, liberal arts and sciences, and other degree programs.
Brittny will graduate with degrees in Business and Liberal Studies. After graduation, she plans to move to Vermont and earn a bachelor’s degree. Her long-term goal is to open her own bakery and café.
Brittny will tell you that attending college at our Midcoast Campus has taught her more than just academics.
After graduating from Brunswick High School, Brittny initially had her sights on some out- of- state schools. But the cost was daunting, so she came to SMCC — just as her mother had advised her in the first place. In the end, she’s glad she listened to her mom.
“SMCC helped me break out of my shell,” she says. “It really helped me blossom, and that’s one of the big reasons my mom wanted me to come here.”
Come join us May 5 and see what SMCC can do for you.
