From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “One of the pair of work horses belonging to Ivory E. Davis, the lumberman, figured in a rather unusual accident Thursday, falling to the bottom of a well where he remained for some two hours and a half and finally being hoisted with tackle and fall to the surface again. When the work of rescue was ended it was found that the animal could not stand and this morning Dr. W.S. Leighton, the veterinary, went to the Davis place, and after examining the animal shot it, the spine being so injured as to preclude the possibility of its recovering.”
